Shirdi is a major pilgrimage center visited by a large number of religious tourists each day. It is known as the home of the great saint - Sai Baba. Shirdi has a lot of sightseeing places of religious importance significant to the life of Sai Baba. One such place is Dwarkamai mosque, situated on the right of the entrance of Sai Baba samadhi mandir. Dwarkamai was the dwelling place of Sai Baba for 60 years. Once a ruined and abandoned building, Dwarkamai is now considered as a holy place with hordes of tourists visiting this place every day. It is the very place where Sai Baba used to listen to the worries of distressed people and solve their woes with his blessings.

Dwarkamai is divided into two levels. First level contains a portrait of Sai Baba and a big stone on which Sai Baba used to sit. This level has two rooms - one containing a chariot and another a palki. Just in front of the room where chariot is kept, there is a small temple with a saffron flag flying over it. The second level has a square stool made of stone used by Sai Baba for taking a bath. This level also contains the grinding stone and the vessel used by Sai Baba for keeping his Bhiksha. The oil paintings of Sai Baba are a major attraction of Dwarkamai. Dwarkamai houses the sacred fire ‘Dhuni’ lit by Sai Baba 100 years ago which is kept alive till date. The ash from the fire known as ’Udhi’ is considered sacred by the devotees and is known to have healing powers.

Dwarkamai is a must visit place in Shirdi for its religious significance. The fact that Sai Baba literally lived here makes it a site of utmost importance and one will be immersed in the serene atmosphere with the presence of Sai Baba attracting them. A trip to Shirdi is said to be incomplete without visiting Dwarkamai, the mother of mercy.
